Serbian House on Corfu

The Serbian House on Corfu preserves the memory of the Serbian army and people who found refuge on this Greek island during the First World War. The multimedia exhibition “Serbs on Corfu 1916–1918”, opened on 18 April 2016, is a contribution to honouring the memory of those illustrious ancestors.

After the magnificent victories of 1914 and the harsh retreat before the triple invasion of 1915, the Serbian army and refugees were evacuated to Corfu. The display bears witness to suffering, but also to the army's swift recovery, the continued work of state institutions, and the departure for the Salonika Front, from which victory in the Great War was won. The reconstruction of the building was carried out by the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, while the permanent display was realised jointly by the Serbian Historical Museum and the National Library of Serbia.
